Create a website: Tips for Bringing your Business Online

by Tem Balanco

Having your website made can be a long and sometimes difficult process, but the rewards are worth the effort. If you want to create a website for a business, it can increase your exposure and possibly your customer base. Here are some things you'll want to think about, however:

1.Establish the purpose of your site. What do you intend your site to do for your business? Is it a simple FAQ about your company? Or will it be more complicated, where your customers can make orders, transact online, or give you customer feedback? Listing your objectives will let you (or your programmer) know what functions are best suited for your site.

2. Avoid information overload. Some Internet newbies think that they should put as much information as they can into one page, so the clients will see everything they should know about the company. But in reality, users tend to be turned off when they see a lot of text. Keep those paragraphs short, and divide up your information into different, well-organized pages. This way you'll keep your potential clients'attention.

For that same reason, keep your layout clean when you create a website. Avoid long blocks of text, especially text that will require your user to scroll down. You want them to see only the most important information, and then if they want to know more, give them other pages they can look at for further information.

3.Readability is important. Not only does your site have to be well-organized, but it should also be easy on the eyes. Break up long blocks of text with images. Avoid large letters (in net etiquette, large fonts and capitalizing all your letters is tantamount to screaming at people). Keep your site's color palette limited, and use colors that are easy to read text on. You want your user to keep on reading, so you want to make his experience as comfortable as possible.

4.Lastly, keep your site up-to-date. If your site is about a fast-paced industry where a lot of things change quickly, like automobiles or computers, then you want to have your site updated regularly. For this reason, you may want to look into content management systems for your site. If you want to create a website that will just have your company info and contact details, then a simple, static website will suffice.

To create a website for your business may improve your profts. But to do so, you have to design an effective site. It helps to first determine what exactly you want your site to do for your business. This will determine the content of the site. Also remember to keep your layout clean, and easy on the eyes. To keep users from getting bored, don't present too much information all at once.
